Pilot project: Adapted Taxi Service – Everything you need to know

Did you know that people with disabilities often have to wait between 24 and 48 hours for an adapted taxi service? This little-known fact considerably complicates their mobility and independence. That’s why Kéroul et Taxelco (Téo Taxi, Taxi Diamond…), have joined forces to launch a pilot project in the Greater Montreal area (including the outer ring), from July 10 to October 10, 2024.

This project aims to make travel easier, more affordable and accessible for people with disabilities by offering an adapted taxi service in less than an hour. Here’s everything you need to know:

On-demand adapted van transportation

The Adapted Taxis pilot project is an initiative that offers an on-demand transportation solution specially designed for people with reduced mobility. Here are the key points:

  • Adapted vans: Vans are specially equipped to accommodate wheelchair users, with access ramps, secure fastening systems and space for optimum comfort.
  • Quick service: Taxelco drivers mobilize quickly so that users can benefit from an adapted service in less than an hour in the Greater Montreal area, including the first ring to the north and south.
  • 24/7 service: The booking service and drivers are available 24/7 to provide this transportation service.
  • Inclusive rate: For the duration of the project, the service will be offered at the same rate as a regular ride. No additional charges will be applied.
  • Trained drivers: Drivers are trained to assist passengers with reduced mobility, ensuring professional, attentive service.

Why is this pilot project so important?

Mobility is a major issue for people with disabilities. Being able to get around easily and independently is essential to fully enjoy social, economic and cultural life. However, accessible transportation options are often limited and difficult to obtain. This pilot project aims to change this reality by offering a quick and affordable solution. Plus, this pilot project will determine the feasibility and effectiveness of this on-demand adapted transport solution.
